01Demander et indiquer un chemin
Pour demander son chemin en anglais, on utilise souvent : « Excuse me, how can I get to the station? » (Excusez-moi, comment puis-je aller à la gare ?) ou « Is there a supermarket near here? » (Y a-t-il un supermarché près d'ici ?). Pour répondre, on utilise des verbes à l'impératif : « Turn left at the traffic lights. » (Tournez à gauche aux feux.), « Turn right after the bakery. » (Tournez à droite après la boulangerie.), « Go straight on. » (Continuez tout droit.)
- Turn left / turn right
- tourner à gauche / tourner à droite : « Turn left at the corner. »
- Go straight on
- continuer tout droit : « Go straight on until you see the church. »
- Take the first/second street
- prendre la première/deuxième rue : « Take the second street on the right. »
02Situer un lieu précisément
Pour dire où se trouve un lieu par rapport à un autre, on utilise des prépositions précises : « opposite » (en face de) : « The bank is opposite the school. », « next to » (à côté de) : « The pharmacy is next to the post office. », « between » (entre) : « The café is between the bakery and the bookshop. » On utilise aussi « on the corner of » (au coin de) et « at the end of » (au bout de) : « It's at the end of the street. » (C'est au bout de la rue.)
03Des repères utiles dans la ville
Pour donner des directions claires, on utilise souvent des repères dans la ville : « the traffic lights » (les feux), « the roundabout » (le rond-point), « the crossroads » (le carrefour), « the corner » (le coin de la rue). Exemple complet : « Go straight on, take the first street on the left, and the museum is on your right, next to the park. » (Continuez tout droit, prenez la première rue à gauche, et le musée est sur votre droite, à côté du parc.)
04Méthode : expliquer un itinéraire
- Utilise l'impératif pour donner des instructions claires (turn, go, take).
- Ajoute des repères précis (traffic lights, roundabout, corner) pour situer chaque étape.
- Termine par la position finale du lieu avec une préposition (opposite, next to, between).
05Erreurs fréquentes
- ✗ Confondre « left » (gauche) et « right » (droite).
- ✗ Oublier la préposition « on » dans « go straight on ».
- ✗ Utiliser « between » avec un seul élément au lieu de deux : « between » relie toujours deux repères (between the bakery and the bookshop).
